Conference play is going to be a grind, the Cats couldn’t quite hold on to a lead at Penn State, losing 84-80. Trailing by 2, they had a shot at a 3 point play in the closing seconds, and then got the second of two somewhat controversial no-calls for goaltending, which would have tied the game. :sigh:
Watching it on Peacock the officiating seemed very biased towards PSU.
Having watched a few games vs. varying qualities of opponents I think we are a very talented team with lots of Achilles heels. If our opponent exploits the weakness we crumble, but otherwise we look like world beaters.
Teams like that either find their way late January, or fold up into the abyss.

It’s something of a truism that the home team gets the close calls, but last night some of the (IMHO) bad calls weren’t all that close. :sigh:
I was half expecting Chris to blow a gasket, maybe he learned to control that at the Gonzaga game several years ago. But I bet he filed a scathing report with the Big Ten office.
When they got in foul trouble (3 players with 4 fouls and a bunch more with 3), they may have had to back off on the game plan a bit.
Penn State was in the bonus well before halfway through both the first and second halves. I didn’t get to watch it, but NU fans seem particularly upset at the review that wiped a Barnhizer game-tying basket off the books with a few seconds left in the game.

There was apparently an inadvertent whistle between what looked like goaltending and the Barnheiser basket a second or two later. But it took the officials several minutes to sort that out.
