Chip Kelly, who most recent job had been OC for the Raiders, has been
hired to be OC at NU.
It shocks me that we are paying a coordinator well over $1 million maybe even up to $2 million as Michigan and Ohio State pay well over that. This used to be coaches salary.
It is exciting and I hope he can do something, but renting a few more players seems like a better use of that money. College football gets uglier every year.
Look like NU is adopting the "Just Win, Baby " attitude.
But if Kelly really does develop QB’s then he’s probably worth it.

Watching the YouTube pressie with Braun it seems like Kelly wasn’t his decision.
I didn’t get that vibe. He was fumbling around a bit at first, but as the presser went on, he got more expressive.
Was Jackson’s connection with Chip a factor? Well, yeah, contacts are important in coaching moves.
You might be right, but we speculate that Braun is defense, special teams, personnel management, and recruiting and Chip Kelly won’t travel to recruit, but owns 100% control of the offense. Some level of pressure to produce a respectable offense after 3 years and the years prior with Fitz. Seems like some big donor is antsy and put his money where his mouth was.
The key will be when the OC picks up a donor name - similar to the head coach’s title.
Wonder where Tim McG fits into all this, since he is the DC now. (and how long can NU hold on to him as well.)
I also wonder if Mike Kafka is sniffing around a few programs - altho he did a pretty good job with the Giants as “interim.”

Also can’t help but wonder if Chip Kelly is a head coach in waiting.
We are in a new era now where a great education doesn’t carry the same value as it did in the past.
MSU was able to recruit Fitz in part because they just got a $290M donation to the Athletic Department.
Kelly may be the sort of “name” coach the NU needs in order to fund their own efforts to compete in an NIL world where the schools now manage the money.
