Good start to the football season, #10 FSU loses to Georgia Tech in
Ireland on a game-ending field goal.

Two obvious comments about this game

  1. Florida State fans will hate how the game didn’t end in regulation on
    a “Wide Right” FG attempt.

2)It must really sting to lose in the closing seconds to the “Yellow
Jackets”.

Worse this is their “audition” season for both football and AAU membership. They want out of the ACC and into the B1G/SEC bad.

Long-term both the ACC and Big XII will be picked apart further.

The Big Twelve is in talks with UConn becoming an all-sport member, and to be honest, are there any teams in the Big Twelve that either the Big Ten or the SEC are likely to want? To use a baseball stat as an analogy, I don’t think there are many teams now in the Big Twelve that have a positive WAR for either the Big Ten or the SEC.

I could see the Big Ten going after Clemson, Free Shoes U still seems like a better fit for the SEC, but if the ACC loses its two biggest stars, a merger with the Big Twelve might become the best option for both conferences.

As to the AAU, they have their collective heads up their butts.

I cant recall if FSU was able to finalize contract terms where they were to get an outsized portion of the ACC revenues or not. In either case, losing their opener after going undefeated last year ( excluding bowl where half the team didn’t play) is not a good look.

Eventually not in the next couple of rounds but Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and at least one of the Arizona schools will make the cut.

The privates, no way despite BYU and Baylor historic football success.

I don’t think FSU and the ACC have reached any kind of agreement, arbitration didn’t resolve the issues but settlement talks are said to be continuing. FSU is not exactly a pearl of great price.

The White Sox lost their 100th game today, and if the Cubs continue to go 2-1 in their remaining series they’ll finish with 83 wins. If the Braves remain on their current pace they’ll have 84 wins and the Cubs will miss the playoffs by one game.
