I am SO ready for football!

I don’t give a fig about the WNBA, NBA or NHL. The NFL preseason doesn’t count, though Mahome’s behind-the-back pass to Kelse was a work of art. I can’t decide if the Bears are going to be playoff-worthy, my guess is they might fall about a game short. But they may be worth watching for a change, though unless I want to pay a still-exorbitant fee I’ll probably be lucky to be able to watch a half-dozen Bears games.

The White Sox were mathematically eliminated the other day, I don’t recall a team being eliminated in August since the current playoff format was introduced. Terrible time for south-siders, even this life-long Cubs fan feels their pain.

The Cubs have good stretches followed by awful ones, today’s 1-0 loss was just miserable.

My guess is they might be eliminated before the last week of the season. And someone’s head should roll for that, and probably not Craig Counsell’s. But the Ricketts family probably won’t change the front office. The curse of PK Wrigley lives on! (That pre-dated the Billy Goat curse.)

So I am SOOOOO ready for college football, the first game is less than a week away and the first Cats and Husker games less than two weeks away. Might be a frustrating season in Evanston, but the shots of the lakefront stadium should be enjoyable; hopes are high in Lincoln (but we’ve heard that tune before.)

Hoping the SEC does another face-plant in the playoffs.

I share your hopes about the SEC but I think we will see a return of the champ from the conference. Texas and Georgia both look so strong to me , though I wonder how much of a monkey wrench gets thrown into the mix with the conference changes and the CFP changes ?

Looking forward to a really different season this year.

NU alum Stewart Mandel picks NU to go 7-5, 5-4:

It’s gonna be an interesting year with the new playoff. There will be some upsets (12/5? 10/7?) and some surprises in the final four.

The SEC and Big Ten both seem a bit top heavy with OSU/Oregon and UGa/UT seemingly at another level … we’ll see if that motivates PSU/Bama/Michigan/Oklahoma to step up.

One more week to kickoff and two more weeks for the Cats! Let’s go!

I’m just counting the days to Purple-palooza on the shores of Lake Washington. Should be an incredible setting for a game! My niece – whose parents are also NU alums – just had to show me a store she discovered in downtown Seattle this summer by Pike Place called The Purple Store. We almost bought out the store. However, while the store had plenty of Washington, LSU, Vikings, Ravens and other items (along with non-sports purple items) … no NU items to be found! I told the manager I hope they will rectify that now that they’re in the Big Ten because there will be a lot of NU fans there in September. We’ll see.

GO CATS!!! GEAUX SAINTS!!!

I prefer pocket tees, and they are almost NEVER team-branded.

I did find some purple ones at KingSize and some elderberry (kind of dark purple) ones at Duluth Trading, ordered 3 of each. The Duluth ones are a Large, the KingSize ones I ordered in XL because I think their sizes run small.

I’m down 45 pounds from Christmas due to the modified keto diet we started in February, I was a 2X shirt size in January, and I’ve gone from a 44-46 waist to a 38 and those are loose enough I might need to drop down to 36 by mid-fall. Whether I can get below a Large in a tee shirt remains to be seen, but my weight is under 190 for probably the first time in 40 years.

Oregon looks scary-good, Texas I’m not so big on, OSU will probably fold late again, as will Penn State, Colorado is getting way too much attention, and I’m hoping the Huskers shut that down quickly. 8 wins seems possible for the Huskers, I’ll be OK with 7. 7 wins seems a bit of a stretch for the Cats, they can’t afford to lose any non-conference games this year, there aren’t a lot of easy wins in the Big Ten.

If Iowa finds an offense, they might make a playoffs run. I don’t see Kirk Ferentz going more than another two or three seasons, maybe a playoffs berth would convince him it is time to retire about as ‘on top’ as he’s likely to be.

Mike

Congratulations and keep it up ; or down so to speak ! At the rate I’m going these days ,I might need to buy your double XL shirts

I plan on going to Seattle as well

Purple Cats vs Purple Dogs

Harry

We were so excited about a Seattle trip as my sister is out there and my niece, nephew, and brother-in-law are alums, but…

Our dog sitter who we sit for also decided to schedule a cruise those dates so we’re sitting for her dogs instead.

Oh well. Probably still make our usual @ Michigan trip.
