Journalism note: NY Times shutting down sports department and will use The Athletic for sports stories

The Trib and WSJ are reporting that the NY Times is getting rid of its entire sports department and will rely on The Athletic (which they purchased last year) for sports coverage.

Money and power in sports will now be part of the business coverage.

Interesting times for journalists.

I pretty much assumed they’d do this after that acquisition. For better or for worse, it makes sense.

Change their Slogan to All the News that Fits we print.
