OT: NU reportedly close to settlement with Trump

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Northwestern is close to a settlement with the Trump administration that would restore potentially $790 million dollars worth of federal funding.

From the article:

We look forward to announcing a final agreement soon that will ensure all students have equal learning opportunities, hiring and admissions decisions are merit-based, and the university once again prioritizes truth seeking and academic excellence,” the statement said.

It will be interesting to see how this sits with NU faculty and students.

And alumni.

Northwestern was at the bottom on free speech rankings and now is in the middle

It felt like Northwestern started to get really political in the mid 2010s as reunion events, theatre, etc. including some unexpected areas all seemed to have a bias. If I go to a popular musical at Northwestern like Addams Family I should know what to expect. In this case last Sunday’s performance I didn’t feel anything was awry.
Hopefully we are back to a apolitical administration.

If capitulating to extortion and curtailing student protests is “apolitical,” then, sure.

What about free speech ranking being at the bottom of the barrel during the last 2 NU president’s tenures? A large minority of the students lived in fear of being exposed as an X and being harassed on campus by radical students, faculty, and administration.

I’m not aware of these rankings. What was the source that generated them?

I cited it in my post on the 27th.
