For those of you who don’t follow the NBA closely, NU BB one and done Pat Spencer has made his way to the NBA.
The backstory is Pat came to NU as a grad student after an all star lacrosse career at Loyola. Seeing no professional future in lacrosse, he tried his hand at BB. He left NU during the COVID year to play pro ball in Germany. He played well enough to get a G-league shot with the Wizards. He parlayed that into a G-league spot with the Warriors last year. He stuck with the Warriors’ G-league team and generally impressed their staff with his gritty play. Earlier this year, he joined the NBA team filling the last 2-way slot that they had available. He quickly became a fan favorite for the home court crowd.
Last night during the last minute of garbage time during a blowout win over the Griz, Pat got his first bucket in the NBA.
It’s been a long road, but you have to admire his grit and determination.
