A screenwriter I know once said that he thought “A Christmas Carol” was the perfect plot, because he’s never seen a production or variation of it that wasn’t entertaining, even a production done by a kindergarten-1st grade school.
I think the same argument could be made for the Toccata and Fugue in D minor, I’ve heard it on a variety of instruments and they were all pretty good. I was just watching the Canadian Brass recording of it on Youtube (I think Bob introduced me to that recording), and Charles Daellenbach looks SOO young in that video.
Well, maybe not on bagpipes. (One of the acts coming to the Lied Center in Lincoln this year is “The Red Hot Chili Pipers”, I’m looking forward to that one.)
