Will spring scrimmages between schools take the place of Spring games?

Colorado has talked about wanting to hold a spring scrimmage against another school (and at least one school has indicated an interest) and now OSU is talking about the possibility of one or two spring scrimmages against OU as a substitute for the annual Bedlam game.

The NCAA doesn’t currently allow off-season competitions in football, though some other sports, like volleyball, have them. It’ll be interesting to see if the NCAA changes the rules to permit this.

Our spring practice is Saturday, April 19th 9:30am at the lake.

I’m not sure what Nebraska is doing, it might be something like what the Pro Bowl has become – a non-football series of activities involving football players, among others.

FWIW, Nebraska Coach Matt Rhule has also expressed interest in an NFL-like spring practice with another school, if it becomes a possibility.

The NCAA shot down Colorado’s proposed spring practice/scrimmage against another school, so if any schools want to do this they’ll have to get the NCAA bylaws changed or see if they can win a lawsuit. (But maybe the NCAA would fold like they did with the last two or three lawsuits, I don’t think they’ve got the stomach for another high profile case that they could eventually lose in a big way, probably destroying what’s left of their authority/integrity.)
